Eyeballin' you!

Wow... has it really been this long?

Incredible. It's hard to believe that it's been since 2012 that I've written anything!
Z will be 11 next month and A will be 22.... and of course, I hit the big FIVE O this year.

I'm still working in the medical field, went back to school and will finish my Masters in Public Health next spring. Will have to review previous and past posts to see where I left off!

Eyeballin' you!

It's been awhile....

Wow.... it has been AGES since I last posted on this site.  In a way, my LJ page has been relegated to the Internet closet along with a few other social sites I've either lost interest in or just haven't had as much time to update.  Every now and then I'll get a friendly "nudge" from an LJ friend and those are appreciated :)

Let's see... for those who don't have Facebook (where I post frequently) much has happened over the past year or so.  A has moved back in after being homeless for a year and a half.  He came back to B-town last fall and I invited him over for Thanksgiving.  He hung out with us for a week and then couch-surfed at a friend's.  Again, we had him over for Christmas and on Christmas Eve, he received a call from the Mall offering him a job.  He had been applying everywhere and we were so excited for him.  He started right after the New Year, went back to school and finished his GED and has been with us since.

He's still on probation but I'm very proud to say he's kept himself clean, hasn't called in sick once and even accepted extra hours when the store called him in. I bought a second car a month ago and he's using it strictly for transportation to and from work.

My job has slowly been changing and while I really thought I would be selected as the next Clinic Manager for my Department just recently, the COO gave the position to someone in Billing.  Not sure I agree with his selection but it does lead me to believe he's not interested in experience in the occupation field... he's looking at the bottom line.  Money.  Why does it always have to be about money? *sigh* Meeting coming up next week and I'm already putting in applications at other sites.

My little SNOX (Z) is 8 and a half and brilliant! Yes, I may be biased but her test results from the state came back and she's in the 99th percentile in the nation for 2nd graders... :) Makes a parent smile, it does!  She's no longer in gymnastics but really wants to pursue music.

Off to get a bite to eat and hopefully catch up with other LJs.  Cheers!

Eyeballin' you!

Gonna lose some weight :)

Not sure what planets are circling to influence my decision but.... I am bound and determined to lose 33lbs by my birthday (9/11).  Started Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred program yesterday and we'll see what happens.  The 20 minute intense daily program is guaranteed to drop 20lbs off of you in 30 days.

I've also started taking Activia.... decided to combine a couple of different things to lose weight.  Changed my eating habits (more fruits and vegetables, cut out all cookies, chips and my favorite... ice cream, for awhile), working out daily and drinking LOTS of water.  I expect to lose 20lbs before my birthday.. just not sure about the last 13! But.. I AM determined and any weight loss is better than none :P

Will also get back into walking Akira daily.  When I first got her, we walked every day.  Down to the Illahee reserve and hit the trails for about an hour.  We haven't done that in about two weeks.  Not sure why since the weather is gorgeous!  She's been to the vet recently and went from 68lbs to 74.  She's getting chubby!

A is living in a tent in the backyard... *sigh* I knew the four months he was couch surfing wouldn't last.  But since he doesn't have a job and has no means of supporting himself, he's only allowed in the house to shower, eat with us and maybe catch a show or two on TV.. Otherwise, when Z and I are not home, he's either outside in his tent or out looking for a job.

Well.. off to see what kind of dinner I can make with tuna.. ;P

Can't sleep...

It's 4 am and I've been up since 3... slept all day yesterday (until 5 pm) and went back to bed around 9pm.  Guess that'll teach me! LOL

At least there's no one else in the house and I can get some work done.  Laundry's been started, already pulled up the loose carpets in the living room and getting ready to vacuum... I wonder if my neighbors will hear it next door?

I'll be participating in my 2nd Zumba class today! A bit sore from Thursday night's class but not enough to deter me from going again today.  I'm hoping THIS will take off a few more pounds.  Why is it SO hard to lose weight after you turn 40???

Eyeballin' you!

Pluck Yew too :P

A little bit of history I learned in the Navy…. I feel compelled to send it on to my more intelligent friends in the hope that they, too, will feel edified. Isn't history more fun when you know something about it?

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers. Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as 'plucking the yew' (or 'pluck yew').
Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, “See, we can still pluck yew!”

Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually changed to a labiodentals fricative F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as 'giving the bird.'

And yew thought yew knew every plucking thing!!

bar code me

Heading to Kansas :)

Yea! Z's totally excited as the days get closer and closer to our departure :) Flying out Saturday morning (early!) and will be home for about a week.  25th year High School reunion and visiting with the ENTIRE family... something that hasn't happened since 1993!  Can't wait to see my youngest brother, his wife and their little one.

A's got a job so he'll be staying behind, of course I'll be holding my breath the entire time... waiting for THAT phone call.  Hopefully I'm worrying for nothing.

My smile

He's got a job!!!

There's probably only a few times in a mother's life that her heart swells with so much pride, you'd think it was going to burst!! Well, yesterday was one of those times when A called me around 1pm to tell me.... he's EMPLOYED!!!  Oh my! *faints* I didn't think that was going to happen for awhile but it did.  Took him clothes shopping last night for some dark pants and a couple of dark shirts.  He's currently the new cashier at KMART.... While I wish he had been hired somewhere OTHER then there, it's his first job, it's A job and a start.... Momma's so proud :)

It's summer... it's summer!!

Whew! What a weekend! Brought the solstice in with a wonderful outdoor BBQ and looked for fairies far into the night! What fun to dress in sequins and damask... :)  Didn't take pictures because my OWN little fairy hid the FlipVideo on me! Eeeck! I hope to find it before our trip next month.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their SUMMER!!  Post and let me know what your plans are!
